After what seems like forever the Mytchett Athletic Old Boys were back in action today with a Division 5 game against Ropley Social Veterans.
The game kicked off with Mytchett immediately asserting their dominance but with no reward and completely against the run of play the visitors took the lead after a mistake in the Mytchett box was pounced on by Ropley.
Mytchett made a tactical substitution and with half time approaching a deserved equaliser was scored by Malcolm Watts.
The second half began and Mytchett were soon 2-1 up thanks to a goal by Carl Swain.
Mytchett’s dominance continued but chances were not converted into goals and with only a one goal lead it was with relief that the impressive Paul Kelly got his efforts rewards and Mytchett were in the ascendance at 3-1.
Ropley came close to reducing the deficit when a free kick was awarded just outside the box but the Mytchett keeper (who had not had a great deal to do) cushioned a well struck effort.
In the last minutes Mytchett were awarded a penalty but a great effort thundered off the woodwork.
This result continued an excellent start to the season for Mytchett with 4 wins out of 4 and a maximum 12 points.
