MAFC 24th Annual Tournament Review

     May 9, 2016   //   by admin   //   Club News  //  6 Comments

We would like to thank all of the teams for supporting us at our 24th annual tournament.

It was another fun tournament, played in the right spirit and not without moments of high drama as a number of knockout matches were settled by Golden Goal.

2017 will be our 25th Annual Tournament. Some have suggested we mark the occasion with solid silver trophies! Although budgets may not stretch that far, you can be assured of another memorable day out for players, parents and coaches.

This year we introduced WhatsApp messaging to share league tables and knockout fixtures, and keep everyone more in touch with events. We think that worked well and will use it again.

If you have any suggestions on how we can make things even better next year we would love to hear them. Please share your comments below.

Jewel Windows

We were delighted to have Jewel Windows as our Tournament Sponsor again this year. Jewel are a local company who continue to support football in the local community. When the time comes to replace your windows and doors, or perhaps a new conservatory or orangery, please give them a call and mention Mytchett Athletic FC.

This year we were also supported by Specsavers in Aldershot, Farnborough and Camberley. They provided goody bags for the U7s and U8s and thanks to their generosity we were able to purchase brand new mini-soccer goals which made their debut at the tournament.

There are a number of other companies and people we must thank, starting with the Mytchett Centre for the hire of the pitches and facilities, and Dave Travers for doing a great job preparing the pitches. Thanks to Ivor Baker Awards for the supply of the trophies, to Woods Butchers in North Camp for the BBQ meats. DE Photo for their professional photography services. Paul Ibbotson for the PA system. IGB Print for printing our programme. All of our programme advertisers and team sponsors. Jones Entertainments for the sweets and donuts, and Gordon Marlow the Ice Cream man.

Staging this tournament is only really possible thanks to the efforts of all our volunteers from within the club, some of whom are there over the entire weekend. For the many parents, grandparents, players and everyone who helped, a huge thank you on behalf of the Tournament Committee.

A reminder that the photos taken by DE Photo can be viewed & purchased online via their website

  • Thanks for a great tournament – really enjoyable, some great football and the friendliest atmosphere amongst the teams that I can recall from any previous tournaments I’ve been to. A credit to Mytchett and all the participants

  • Fab day at Mytchett this year. The WhatsApp system was brilliant – really innovative and saved everyone hanging round the control tent waiting for results. A seamless and well run event. It was my team’s first time at Mytchett and managed to come away with silverware – must be an omen so we’ll be back next year!
