Mytchett Athletic FC President Alan Wildsmith was winner of the Outstanding Service to Sport award at the recent Surrey Heath Sports Awards.

The 2015 Surrey Heath Sports Awards celebrated the best in local sporting achievement on Monday 19 October at an invite-only ceremony at Camberley Theatre.

Organised by Surrey Heath Borough Council, the awards honour people from across the borough who have excelled in their sport, exceeded personal targets or made a meaningful impact on the local community.

The evening is one of the most anticipated events in the borough calendar as a chance to celebrate the achievements of local athletes, clubs, coaches and volunteers. A panel had the difficult task of whittling down around 50 nominations to a short-list of just 3 finalists per category (except Outstanding Service to Sport which contained 5 finalists) before winners were selected by the Surrey Heath Sports Council.

The awards were attended by around 350 members of the local sporting community and selected VIPs including the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Joanne Potter and Surrey Heath Borough Council Chief Executive, Karen Whelan.

Cllr Craig Fennell, portfolio holder for Business said, “It’s been a fantastic evening celebrating and reflecting on the achievements of the Surrey Heath community. Tonight has demonstrated how much talent there is in the borough and we look forward to hearing about further successes in the future”.

Alan completes a list of 10 local winners entered into the county-wide Surrey Sports Awards which are held in December.

Congratulations Alan and best of luck in the Surrey Sports Awards.
