History

Mytchett Athletic Football Club was established in 1971 and was a founder member of the Farnborough Boys League, now known and respected as the North East Hants Youth League.

When MAFC was formed it had two teams and true to the club motto “Progress” now boasts junior and youth teams from under 7s to under 18s, plus younger players at under 5s and 6s in our Mini-Kickets, and open age adults and veterans teams. The main aim of the club is to provide facilities for boys and girls to develop their sportsmanship and football ability in a friendly environment, including parental encouragement and help from the local area.

The club colours are yellow and black. The club use pitches rented from Surrey Heath Borough Council with venues at Blackdown Road recreation ground (Deepcut), Frimley Green recreation ground and Frimley Lodge alongside the Basingstoke Canal. The Club also use pitches provided by Ash Parish council. Each year teams hold their own presentation evening, sometimes combining other age groups. Trophies are presented for various achievements which are proudly received by both boys and girls alike.

During the clubs existence some players have progressed into professional football, albeit with clubs in the lower leagues. One player, Kevin Betsy, made it to the Premiership when Kevin Keegan signed him for Fulham in 1998.

Tim Sills also played for Mytchett Athletic and became the first ever Mytchett player to represent England when he was called up to play for the England C team against the Belgium U23 side in February 2003.

The club is managed by an executive committee which includes the main officers plus assistants. The executive committee meet twice a month (more if necessary) and there is a full monthly committee meeting attended by all the managers and assistants and other officers of the club.

Throughout the existence of the club we have won numerous awards and titles at various age groups. Mytchett Athletic were proud winners of the Hampshire County Cup in 1988 (Under 10s) and in 1991 (Under 12s). The club’s greatest recent achievement on the pitch was winning the North East Hants Youth League Fair Play Award in 2011/12 season, which is a reflection of the way our coaches, players and parents conduct themselves on match days.
